CHILDREN

Recent Dyslexia Diagnosis In Your Family?

You may feel like every other expert has their two cents on how to treat your child, but one thing for sure is that eye tracking and depth perception may be affecting their studies.

It can be hard to stand by and watch as their frustrations with reading and vision affect other parts of their development. And of course you’re worried that they may fall behind their peers, right?

The good news is that you’re in the right place for practical advice and steps to take to solve the problem.

BARRETT OPTICIANS IS THE LEADING CHILD SPECIALIST OPTOMETRIST IN LEINSTER FOR DYSLEXIA.

We have tested hundreds of children with dyslexic tendencies and you can rest assured that your child will feel comfortable and supported by our experienced team.

We aim to cure two of the most common visual problems found in children caused by eyestrain:

Convergence Insufficiency and Inadequate Accommodation.

Convergence and Accommodation?

Convergence is the simultaneous inward movement of both eyes to look at an object, and see it as single. Normal point of convergence is when both eyes together are used in a co-ordinated manner. When this does not function properly, it is called Convergence Insufficiency.

We can cure convergence insufficiency within 12-18 months through eye exercises and low powered temporary reading glasses. These are used for near tasks and soothe the eyes.

Accommodation is the ability of the eye to change its focus from distant to near objects and back again. For example from a desk to a school board or from a football to a goal post.

We carry out sight tests to reveal if accommodation is below normal. Low powered, temporary reading glasses solve the blurred vision caused by inadequate accommodation.

Children or students will normally need these glasses for near tasks such as reading, writing, typing, PC use, computer games, TV, art, music, homework, school work and school board.

This will determine if your child is suffering from vision linked stress. From this we can get an accurate prescription that will help make life easier, because dealing with their stress reduces their dyslexic tendencies.
