COMMON ISSUES WE DEAL WITH EVERY DAY INCLUDE:

DRY EYES

Dry eye symptoms can be relieved using a variety of treatments and preventative measures, all available at Barrett Opticians.

CATARACTS

Cataracts are an eye condition where clouding develops in crystalline lens of the eye. Cataracts typically develop slowly. Early detection can lead to more effective and better treatment of the condition.
Here at Barrett Opticians we have the latest technology to check for cataracts and other age related conditions.
Our optometrists can refer you on to a specialist to obtain treatment for cataracts if necessary.

MACULAR DEGENERATION

During early stages of the condition you may notice that reading small print can be difficult and stronger lenses or better quality light can be a great help.
We can recommend vitamin supplements with doses of lutein to slow down the progression of changes.
The earlier the disease is detected the better the chance of slowing progression.

GLAUCOMA

Glaucoma causes damage to the optic nerve. The optic nerve carries images we see to the brain. Glaucoma can cause damage to the nerve fibres causing blind spots.
Pressure inside the eye, called Intraocular Pressure, builds up when fluid is stopped from draining away causing the pressure to increase.
Many people with glaucoma have little symptoms as the process of decreasing field of vision is very slow.

Glaucoma risk factors include:

  1. Old age
  2. Blood relative with glaucoma
  3. Diabetes
  4. High blood pressure

Our practice is fully equipped to detect glaucoma at the earliest stage. We have visual fields machine that can detect early field loss induced by glaucoma.
